Why anyone checks
Practising a regulated profession without a current licence is an offence in Illinois, and the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation publishes this register so the public can check. The professions are not niche: the largest categories here are Registered Professional Nurse (265,514), Original Firearms Training (151,403), Permanent Employee Registration (91,702), Licensed Physician And Surgeon (67,472).

IDFPR's full file has 3,869,845 licences. Most of them are not live: 2,020,966 rows were never renewed, and others are expired, cancelled or surrendered. This site loads the 1,249,194 active ones.
The consequence matters and is easy to get wrong: not finding someone here does not mean they never held a licence. It means they do not hold an active one. Why the scope stops there.
Where this site stops, deliberately
IDFPR publishes the reason for every disciplinary action. Across the register, the most common reasons are unpaid state taxes, criminal conviction history, child support arrears and defaulted student loans — things that say nothing about how someone does their job.
So: no page on this site names a person alongside a sanction, and none carries a reason. The counts are published — 13,548 of the 1,249,194 active licences carry at least one action — because that is a fact about the system. The detail appears only on an individual entry, which is built in your browser and has no address a search engine can reach. The whole reasoning.
